The newest locksmith in town is now Bill Thompson who owns and operates Bill's Lock & Sporting Goods. The company provides locksmith services for business and residential customers in Trail, Nelson, Castlegar and surrounding areas.

Bill Thompson believes that good service in a timely manor is the key to acquiring and retaining customers. As Bill worked on his business plan he spoke with potential business customers to determine the need for his services. Some businesses told him that they have had to sometimes wait for 2 or 3 days to have locksmith work done. He also found that some businesses could not wait for service and had to call in a locksmith from another city which greatly added to the expense. Most businesses he surveyed felt there was a great need for his services and that was enough to convince him that his business idea was viable.

Bill completed his business plan and opened his doors to the public on November 3, 2003. The business is home based and the whole family provides assistance whenever possible. Once his business becomes established Bill hopes to move his business into a retail storefront. Being home based during the start up phase helps keeps his overhead low so he can offer competitive rates for his customers.

Bill is no stranger to retail sales as most of his career has evolved around retail sales and working with the public. He completed his locksmith apprenticeship with a local shop and earned his locksmith certificate in 2000.
