Jenny Basom, Trail Creek Bistro
Several years ago, Jenny and her family vacationed in the Kootenays for the first time. They fell in love with the area and its small town appeal. Last year Jenny’s husband was offered a relocation opportunity with his employer; they jumped at it and moved to Trail with their children.
Jenny is a certified Red Seal Chef with an extensive background in food services. She saw an opportunity utilizing these skills to create a new dining option for residents of the Greater Trail area. She researched existing restaurants and coffee shops to identify what was lacking and polled potential customers to see what was in demand.
Trail Creek Bistro opened its doors in July 2015 and is located at 876 Rossland Avenue, offering a family friendly atmosphere with a diverse mixture of both trendy and comfort foods. The menu offers quick, upscale lunches catering to the 9 – 5 crowd, as well as yummy Sunday brunches, dinners, desserts and ice cream treats that the whole family can enjoy.
“When I moved here with my partner I was able to participate in the Self Employment Program offered at Community Futures. Jenny explained further, “That was fabulous, because they helped with a business plan and all the basics. So that was the big catalyst.”
