Our Board of Directors identifies goals and objectives for the upcoming year through strategic planning. Staff then is charged with the task of delivering on these goals. The Board meets eight times per year at which time the Executive Director provides a progress report and receives input from the Board.

Board Recruitment, Nominations & Term

Board candidates are recruited by referrals, invitations, expressions of interest and qualifications. New Directors are nominated and elected at CFSK’s Annual General Meeting in June. A Director may serve up to a maximum of 9 consecutive terms.

In addition to the Board of Directors, Community Futures South Kootenay has three committees. Each committee is chaired by a Director on the Board, and all Board and committee members live in the South Kootenay area. Directors and volunteers on committees are often business people, educators, professionals and active community volunteers with an interest in economic prosperity through community involvement.

Loans Committee

Also known as an Investment Review Committee, CFSK’s Loans Committee approves or rejects requests for financing and meets on an as-needed basis. This Committee is comprised of the following Directors and non-board community volunteers:

  • Ken LeRose
  • Sara Stuart

CFSK’s Loans Manager Tamara Rotach and Executive Director Erik Kalacis also attend Loans Committee meetings.

Community Economic Development (CED) Committee

This Committee researches and develops CED projects that create positive economic impact in our region. This Committee is chaired by a Director and is comprised of Directors and community volunteers. The Community Economic Development Coordinator and Executive Director attend Committee meetings.

Self Employment Committee

This Committee reviews and approves Self Employment Program applications. The Committee is comprised of Directors and community volunteers.

Audit Committee

This Committee reviews year end financial before they are presented to the Board for final approval. The Committee is comprised of 3 Directors and the General manager.
